KIRU
Japanese cuisine
Brief
Kiru is a hidden gem in Beijing, offering a unique Japanese barbeque experience during the day and transforming into a speakeasy at night. The restaurant takes cutting techniques to the next level, with specific names and a focus on Japanese artistry. The design concept starts with the name Kiru, meaning “cut through” in Japanese, and is brought to life with an epoxy red circulation path that separates the building’s two main functions. Traditional Japanese elements are displayed in an unconventional way, with a combination of materials and colors selected to highlight the iconic red cut. Kiru’s seating areas cater to different needs, from the bar desk for live cooking shows to the tatami area for small group meals or private VIP rooms. Red fabric waves and curtains add privacy and intimacy, while the lighting system highlights the unique features of the space.
